Bishop Alfred Payne

Bishop Alfred Payne was born on October 20, 1953. to the late Mr. George Washington Payne and Ms. Quincy Mobley. Alfred spent his formative years in Escambia County, Florida where he attended and graduated from Pensacola High School in 1971. Alfred accepted the Lord as his savior and later receiving the full baptism of the Holy Ghost. At the age of six, unbeknownst to all he began to play the guitar. As a teenage he became a musician for his eldest brother, the late Bishop C. P. Andrews at the All Saints Holiness Church. in Pensacola, Florida. In 1978, the young Alfred Payne acknowledged his call to ministry. He was licensed to preach by the late Bishop L. Locke. Shortly after he moved to Monticello, New York we he later joined his brother. Bishop Nova Lee Andrews at the All Saints Holiness Church. Minister Payne continued his passion for music, he always wanted to learn more. He began to learn how to play the keyboard. organ as well as the drums by watching others and spending numerous hours practicing. With his love for playing and being a gifted psalmist, he would affectionally be known as “The One-Man Band”.

Later in life, Minister Payne joined Green Chapel Overcoming Church of God under the leadership of the late Bishop G. C. Ridgill. While attending church, he saw a young Missionary Glenda Bennerman who he would later describe as “light on her feet” who became the apple of his eye. After making an inquiry of her, he made his move into courtship. On November 17, 1990, Alfred Payne married Glenda Bennerman. Together they have two beautiful children, Tina Alexander, and Rondale Payne.

In 1991, Minister Payne was ordained as an Elder in the Overcoming Church of God of America, Inc. by Bishop G. C. Ridgill. Elder Payne served in various areas of the ministry such as an Associate Minister and Minister of Music, playing the lead guitar and keyboard. Elder Payne loved to sing and praise the Lord. His favorite songs were “Your grace and mercy brought me through” “Lord I know you’ve been so good” and “When I need him most, Jesus stepped right in” just to name a few.

In November 1996, Elder Payne was appointed as pastor of the Galilee Pentecostal Church where he served until June 1999. Elder Payne continued to ascend to new heights of impact and influence in the years to follow. In 2002, at the demise of Bishop G. C. Ridgill, Elder Payne received a vision from the Lord with his wife’s support, he established the Payne Mission Overcoming Church of God. Elder Payne fed the membership according to the integrity of his heart, guided them by the skillfulness of his hands. In 2003, Pastor Payne was consecrated as a Bishop in the Lord’s Church by Bishop N. K. Allen, Sr., Presiding Bishop of the Overcoming Church of God of America, Inc. Bishop Payne embodied the spirit of a servant leader.

As a visionary and entrepreneur, he served faithfully his family, community, and church. In 2013, Bishop Alfred Payne joined the RKM Fellowship, where he served as the Second Vice Presiding Bishop under the leadership of Bishop Ray A. King. In 2021, Bishop Ray A. King along with the Presidium of the RKM Fellowship appointed Bishop Alfred Payne with the distinct honor as Second Vice Presiding Bishop Emeritus for his many years of service and dedication.

Known as the “miracle man” Bishop Payne overcame many challenges of life and health, he was always found faithful, his calling to fulfill. In 2023, he joined the New Life Pentecostal Church under the leadership of his pastor, Elder Willie Mays, Jr.

Bishop Alfred Payne. a true prince in the Lord’s Church, penned the final chapter of a glorious life, and peacefully turned the page to join the Saints of the ages surrounded by those who loved him most on Thursday, March 28, 2024. He is survived by his wife of Thirty Three years, Lady Glenda Payne; his children, Tina Alexander, and Rondale Payne; two sisters, Alfred,’ Payne Hines, Ann Mobley, one brother, Walter Payne; grandchildren; Marquis Williams, Rontejah Payne, Tanasia Payne. Jaxson Payne, and Wynter Payne; sister in-laws, Bishop Designate Frances Bunn (Thomas), and Mary Smith; brother in-laws, James Bennennatt Jr. (Josephine). Deacon Donnell Bennerman (Margaret), Randolph Bennerman (Mary) Deacon Charles Bennerman (Sharon), and Minister Lawrence Bennerman (Evangelist Jacqueline); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren; the members of New Life Pentecostal Church, former members of the Payne Mission Church of God and Galilee Pentecostal Church.
