Berlene Monroe

November 21 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Berlene Monroe, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on November 9, 2025, at the age of 90. She was the eldest of seven children, born on April 22, 1935, to Delia Jane Monroe and Henry Lee Monroe in Clinton, NC. Berlene grew up in Roseboro, NC, where she attended the Roseboro School System.

She was a devoted employee at Star Expansion Company, where she remained until her retirement. Throughout her life, Berlene was a source of unwavering love, strength, and guidance to her family and friends. She was the proud mother of eight children and worked hard to support them, for which they are forever grateful. Her love was unconditional, and her care immeasurable.

Berlene had a spirit that was gentle, wise, and sweet. She lived her life to the fullest, especially enjoying spending time with her family, going out to eat, and visiting the casino. A passionate sports fan, Berlene loved watching basketball and baseball. Her favorite teams included the New York Yankees, the NJ Nets, the Chicago Bulls, and the Quinnipiac Bobcats.

She also had a deep love for cooking and baking for her family. Some of her most cherished dishes included chicken pastries, collard greens, stuffing, banana and bread pudding, sweet potato pies, cakes (of all flavors), and her infamous flour bread. For decades, Berlene was the beacon of strength for her family, and her legacy will live on in their hearts.

A devoted follower of the Lord, Berlene Monroe was a true believer in Jesus Christ. She was a faithful member of Mount Carmel Church of Christ, DOC for over 50 years, and sang in the Gospel Choir. She especially loved attending the Mt. Carmel annual family and friends cookouts. Berlene also enjoyed going bowling with her church family — although she didn’t bowl herself, she always supported everyone and loved being there in spirit.

Berlene leaves to cherish her love and memories her children: Lola (Sylvester) Lovin, Judy Hope, Linda (Victor) Harris, Denise Oates, Darlene Monroe, and Cheryl McKinnon; and her grandchildren: Aaron, Glen, Tameka, Star, Camile, Anton, Conell (Rab), Yvetta, Jermaine, Fay, Juquese, Tempestt, Darletha, Albert, Nicole, Harold, Brandon, Larry, Shiloh, Adrian, Shemeek, Shadea, Jaren, and Chelsea.

Her brothers also survive her: George, Henry (Dora), and Cleveland Monroe; sisters: Janie (Wade) Pittman and Christine Monroe; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and special friends: Ms. Connie, Ms. Molly, Mrs. Bowman, and Ms. Stackhouse.

She was preceded in death by her sons: Larry Monroe and Curtis Lamb; her brother: Sydney Monroe; her grandchildren: Fierra and Steven Monroe; and her dear friend: Ms. Estelle.

Her last and final words were: “Lord Jesus”.
