In Loving Memory of Aneita Gwendolyn Cox (“Ms. Puncy”)
Aneita Gwendolyn Cox, affectionately known as “Ms. Puncy,” passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025, in Newburgh, New York, at the age of 79. Born on April 4, 1946, in Seaforth, St. Thomas, Jamaica, she was the beloved daughter of the late Constantine Davis and Roslyn Henry.
The second youngest of nine children, Aneita was raised on Lavar Lane in Seaforth before moving to Stewart Field during her teenage years. She attended Seaforth Primary School and proudly graduated at age 16. Shortly after, she met the love of her life, Abraham Cox, with whom she built a beautiful family.
A devoted wife, loving mother, and nurturing grandmother, Aneita leaves behind a legacy of compassion and strength. She is survived by her children: Fenton “Toney” Cox, Walford “Glen”
Cox, Everald “Desmond” Cox, and Shirlette Smith; her cherished grandchildren: Shaun, Zico, Tashae, Anthony, Shanae, Toniakay, and Crishanae; and her adored great-grandchildren: Hannah and Jeremiah. Her family was the center of her world, and she poured love into each of their lives.
Aneita is preceded in death by her parents and siblings: John Henry, Kenneth Henry, Nathlin Cushnie, Moses Cargill, Naomi Cargill, and Hyacinth Cargill. She is lovingly remembered by her surviving siblings, Cardella Henry and Ernest Aphanso Bennett, her daughters-in-law, and son-in-law, Deloris Cox, Carol Cox, and Elaine Mcsam Cox, and son-in-law Christopher Smith, along with nieces and nephews.
Aneita found joy in the simple pleasures of life—tending to her garden, caring for her chickens, sewing, and sharing long, laughter-filled conversations with her sisters, Cherry and Seeni. Her
hands were skilled, her heart was kind, and her spirit was unshakably devoted to her faith. A lifelong Christian, she worshipped with unwavering dedication, praising the Lord every day of the week, right up to her final moments.
Her warmth, generosity, and quiet strength touched everyone who knew her. She selflessly cared for others, including her stepfather, Cephas, and her neighbor, Percy, and always had a warm meal ready for anyone in need. Respected and loved by her community, Aneita was a beacon of kindness and grace.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and compassion. Aneita will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and many dear friends.
May her soul rest in eternal peace.
