Obituary For Walter G. Davis Jr.

Walter Garfield Davis Jr. was born on June 18th, 1968, in Edgecombe County to Ida Ruth Pittman Davis and the late Walter Garfield Davis SR. He was the third of four children. Walter was known by Cannon Ball. Walter (AKA Cannon Ball) transitioned peacefully to be with his Savior on June 1st, 2024.

Walter Received his education in Edgecombe County where he attended North Edgecombe High School in Leggett NC. At an early age, he gave his life to Christ when he attended St Mathews Baptist Church in Whitakers NC, and First Baptist Church in Battleboro NC.

He previously worked as a Chef at Applebee’s in Poughkeepsie, NY, and worked part-time doing mechanical work and landscaping. Walter also enjoyed horse riding, fishing, baseball, Basketball Football, and love dancing.

Walter was baptized as a young boy at Swift Creek and a member of Righteous Grove Baptist. He was recently baptized at First National Holiness Church here in Rocky Mount, NC in 2023. He loved God and was continuously seeking salvation. He was preceded in death by his father Walter Garfield Davis Sr., brother Thomas Carnel Davis Jr., Grandfather Roscoe Junior Bunn (Hog), and Grandmother Melba Ray Bunn, his Grandfather Norman Davis, and Grandmother Alma Davis all of Whitaker’s NC. He leaves to cherish his Mother Chief Apostle Ida Ruth Lusby and three sisters Shelly Davis Marion, Fontella Maria Davis (Roderick Dickens), Nakesia Nichole Boykins, one Brother Willie Pittman, Two Nieces Fe’Nesia De’Andre Daniel, and Mykia Boykins and two Nephews Sedric Rashaud Marion, Kelsey Marion, Great Nephews Miking Jah’Son Daniel, Christopher De’Andre Daniel, Onyx Rashaud Daniel, Sedric Rashuad Marion Jr., Great Niece Mykia Boykins.

Walter (Cannonball) deeply loved Laquan DeVere Wood, (Nyelle Wood), Guy Williamson, JK Williamson, Jazmine Williamson, Royalty Green, and Sheldon Harvard. Also leave to cherish a host of aunts, uncles, great aunts and uncles, cousins, far too many to name. He loved them all dearly.

Acknowledgment of special friends and cousins: He had special friends from Poughkeepsie NY, Whitakers, and Battleboro NC that may be here today. Darren Parker (AKA Born), Mann J, Cheryl Thomas, CaroleaseDancy, Britanny, Elizabeth Green, Debra, and Rhonda Harvard, of Poughkeepsie, NY. Terry Taylor, Ronald Carter, and Terry Lyons of Battleboro, NC. He deeply loved all his cousins from the Bunn, Pittman, and Lyons family and there were simply too many to name.

Walter (AKA Cannon Ball) was known for his beautiful smile and wonderful personality. We the family will deeply miss our son, brother, father, nephew, and friend, Walter Garfield Davis Jr. (aka Cannon Ball) forever.
