Theadore D. Johnson (Ted) resident of Poughkeepsie, NY. entered eternal rest with the Lord on Monday, November 25, 2024.
Ted was born on May 20, 1940, in Hendry County Florida, to the late Douglas and Alberta Cobbs Johnson. He received his education in Glassboro, NJ School District. Ted graduated from the RCA Technical Institute of Cherry Hill NJ, the Radio Electronic
Television School in Philadelphia, PA, the Devilry Technical Institute. He also attended Dutchess Community and Marist College in Poughkeepsie NY.
Ted served in the US Army from 1956-1960. After his tour of duty, he returned to Glassboro, NJ where he held various jobs. He later relocated to Poughkeepsie, NY where he was employed by IBM from 1973-1987 at their Fishkill and Poughkeepsie facilities as a Senior Lab Technician.
He settled in Poughkeepsie, NY, where he met Brenda Green, and they married in December of 1977. Ted loved his family and God deeply. He read scriptures every day as well as his Sunday school lesson. He was passionate about leaving a legacy, he believed everyone was born with a purpose.
Ted always had an interest in working with the youth. He served as a Big Brother in Camden, NJ, and Poughkeepsie. He also volunteered one-to-one mentoring of children. He founded a nonprofit program entitled Y.E.S. Youth Entrepreneurial System which empowers disadvantaged youth by allowing them to develop their small business skills, sharpen academic skills, and form positive attitudes about themselves and their communities.
Ted was a quiet man who didn’t like to be the center of attention. He was well-read and often engaged in many political conversations.
Ted leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Brenda Green Johnson, and his daughter Melissa (Mack) Bennett of Sewell, NJ, a sister Hattie Dredden of Mickleton, NJ, a granddaughter, Kristen Hunt of Georgia; brothers-in-law, David Green of Pleasant
Valley, NY, and Bryan and (Pam Green), of Raleigh, NC, sister-in-law, Joy Heymes. His New Hope church family, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to his parents, was predeceased by a sister Emma.
