Obituary For Shirley Rochester Davis

Shirley Rochester-Davis, born in Junction, St. Elizabeth, on July 23, 1960, to the late Hector Rochester and Melva Newman-Elliott, passed away on September 25, 2025. She relocated to Poughkeepsie, New York, in 2008 with her youngest son and was later joined by three of her children.

Shirley was loved, and all who she met were touched by her warm spirit and her empathic nature. Her home was welcoming, and it was where laughter and good Jamaican home cooking were found. Her love for sports was like none other, and she became the point of reference for scores, updates, and future events. She also worked in healthcare, where she impacted many lives and residents. Families, coworkers, and residents thought highly of how she executed her duties with compassion.

She is survived by her children, Bonica Thawe, Taniesha Powell, Shaneen Brown, Kyle Robinson, Tahjae Davis, and son-in-law Devon Thawe. Grandchildren -Tahj Thawe, Jabari Thawe, Christian Rochester, and Jaxson Easter. Other families include Stepsons, Sisters, Brothers, Nephews, Nieces, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and Husband (separated).

To know her was to love her; she will be greatly missed. We thank you sincerely for your prayers and support during this difficult time.

Ms Shirley was a hard working parent, who was dedicated to her children. She was friendly and a warm neighbor, who quickly made a place for herself in the Glendale community after moving to Kingston, JA with her two young children. She eventually grew her family and immigrated to the US, but maintained her love for her native country, its food and especially its sports. We hope all her children will cultivate her same strong work ethic, neighborly love, and dedication to their own families. Rest in peace.

We mourn a Mother, Grandmother,an Aunt, a sister, cousin and dear friend. She gave without expecting rewards, she shared all that she had and all that she was. We keep her in our memory and hearts. Our pleasant memories includes the laughter, the sports sessions we watched and convos we had, the great food she prepared and how warm and welcoming her home always is. We are thankful for the time we were blessed with and now honor her memory with the love and respect she deserves. Love you always mom Bonica

My mother was just that,a mom to the core. She loved all her children dearly and scrificed and toiled endlessy to ensure they were ok. She welcome her grandchildren with open arms,a little chukkle, sweet hugs and kisses was the order of the day. Now we are left with big footsteps to fill, how do we honor such a gem, her presence and spirit was filled with kindness, warmth ,gratitude and empathy. She was a caregiver for so many years, a job done with pride. Mom you have touched so many lives and for the time we got we are immensly grateful. Rest easy and walk good.
