Deacon Saul W. Holland, affectionally known as “Slim”, of Poughkeepsie, New York, transitioned peacefully on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. He was born and raised in Rebecca, Georgia. Saul was the oldest son of ten children born to the late Mr. Elijah Holland Sr. and Maggie Mae Smith-Holland.
He was a member of the Church of the Living God United, serving on the Deacon Board, Music Ministry, and singing with the Gospel Chorus. He worked many years at Green Sanitation, Brewster, NY, A-1 Compaction Inc., Yonkers, NY, and later retired from Superior Waste Disposal, Danbury, Connecticut. Saul was also an avid gardener.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Ella M. Holland of Poughkeepsie, NY; sons, Saul Holland, Jr. of Poughkeepsie, NY, Ronald Holland of White Plains, NY, and Edward Holland of South Carolina; step-son, David Jordan of Poughkeepsie, NY; two daughters, Brenda Williams of Michigan and Julie Holland of Albany, NY; one brother, Kenneth Holland of Fitzgerald, Georgia; two sisters, Hettie Benjamin of Clifton, New Jersey and Maggie Holland of Paterson,
New Jersey; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Saul was predeceased by his siblings; Elijah Holland, Eugene Holland, Willie Holland, Lewis Holland, Wiffie Lee Holland, and Francis Murray; step-daughter, Mary Thomas.
He will be sadly, missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
Saul was a son, a brother, a father, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, and a friend. All who knew him will miss him dearly.
