“I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4: 7
Samuel Lee Williams, son of Vencia Brown Williams and the late Albert H. Williams was born on November 11, 1954. On Wednesday, September 4th, 2024, he departed his earthly life in exchange for peaceful and eternal life with our heavenly Father. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Parlean Edwards and Michael Williams.
“Sam,” as he was fondly called, accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev.
Ralph Williams. He dedicated his life to Christ and served as a trustee and church musician for St. John
Missionary Baptist Church in Wallace, N.C. He loved his church and his Pastor, Rev. Franklin Faison.
He graduated from Wallace Rose Hill High School in 1973. Sam was a hard worker and worked in the
logging business for years. He was an entrepreneur. He owned and operated Safe Timber Company and
Faith-in-One, LLC Trucking Company. He was called “Mr. Guitar Man,” by other
truckers. Sam was an avid lover of music and singing God's praises. He was the musician for numerous
choirs throughout various counties, including Columbus, Duplin, Pender, and New Hanover.
He also song with such passion and was a member of the gospel groups, The Travelers and The True
Believers. Sam lived the life that he sang about. He loved serving the Lord. He loved spreading the word
of God through song and giving God glory.
Sam was a very loving and caring person to all he met. He never met a stranger. He loved telling jokes, laughing, and making others feel special. He was very giving of his time and full of wisdom and had a lot of patience. No matter the circumstance, he always put God first.
His favorite scripture was Psalm 27:1, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? He loved life and mother nature. He loved working in the
woods whenever he got the opportunity to do so. His favorite pastimes were flying his drones, gardening, and repairing watches.
Sam was a man who loved God and His family. Cherishing his memory are the love of his life, Alice Faye (Miss Alice) of the home; mother, Vencia B. Williams, Wallace, NC; daughter, Jelisha T. Newkirk, Va.; Stepdaughters, Nicole Loftin (Lional), Charlotte, N.C., Krystal Evans (Rendell), Charlotte, N.C.;
