Obituary For Patricia A. Effort

Obituary:

Patricia Ann Kyle Effort, age 83, was called into the gates of Heaven on Friday, July 19, 2024, at her home in Poughkeepsie, NY. She was born on March 8, 1941, to her late parents, Thomas Edward Kyle and Letitia Vest Mathews. Pat was predeceased by her father, Thomas Edward Kyle; stepmother, Mary Kyle; mother, Letitia (Tishy) Mathews; stepfather, Walter (Skee) Mathews; four brothers, Rodney, Thomas Jr., Kim Kyle, and Guy (Doc) Mathews; and two
grandchildren, Heather and Ashley Morgan.

Pat attended the Tarrytown public schools and graduated from Dobbs Ferry High School. She then went on to nursing school and received her LPN License. For many years she was employed at Phelps Memorial Hospital as a neonatal nurse in Sleepy Hollow, NY. She also worked at Briarcrest Nursing Home, and during some summer months, Pat was
the nurse at Mountain Lakes Camp in Katonah, NY.

Pat attended Pace University and received a business degree. She then started working at IBM Corporation where she held several positions until she retired.

Pat accepted Christ at a young age in her life and was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church in
Tarrytown, New York. She then moved to Poughkeepsie, NY where she joined Bethel
Missionary Baptist Church in Wappingers Falls and worked as the Church Secretary for many
years.

The family was extremely important to Pat. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved the Family Reunions and attended all of them until she was unable. Pat worked as a committee member, and at any family gathering, she was the life and light of
the party.

Pat leaves to cherish her memories; her son, Reginald Effort, III; her daughter, Kendall Effort, both of Poughkeepsie, NY; three sisters, Bonnie Warren of Garland, TX, Leslie Mathews of Denver, CO, and Janice Twitty of Desert Hot Springs, CA; five grandchildren, Edgar Henderson Jr., Regina Effort-Nance, Sarah Morgan, Aniyah Enson, several great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

My big sister will be truly missed. Because of her love and guidance she helped me to become the woman I am today. Childhood memory: I was around 5 or 6 years old and i was having a hard time learning my ABCs, but Pat spent around 2 hours helping me to get them down. I am forever greatful for that because that was the beginning of me being able to really read and learn.
