Julius “June” Council entered into rest on May 3, 2026, at Sapphire Nursing Facility. He was 83 years old.
He was born on October 16, 1942, in Hassle, North Carolina, to Wade Council and Sarah Simmons.
In 1965, Julius left North Carolina and moved to Brooklyn, New York. About ten years later, he relocated to Newburgh, New York, where he met the love of his life, Clementine Stackhouse Council. Together, they built a life rooted in love, family, and community.
Julius was a dedicated and hardworking man. He was employed for many years as an ironworker at Eastern Casting. Afterward, he continued his strong work ethic as a stock associate at Geraci’s Neighborhood Market.
He was known for his kind heart and willingness to help anyone in his community. Julius deeply loved his family and cherished every moment spent with them. In his younger years, he attended The House of Joy, where he faithfully served on the Deacon Board. He loved the Lord and gave his life to Christ, carrying his faith with him throughout his life.
Julius found joy in the simple things. He loved riding the Newburgh City bus to Walmart, or wherever he wanted to go; it was something he truly enjoyed. He also loved singing, laughing, doing crossword puzzles, fishing, watching television, and cooking. He was a devoted fan of the New York Mets and enjoyed watching Westerns, Wrestling, and Madea movies, often laughing until he cried.
He leaves to cherish his memory his sons: Allen, Julius, Ruben, Wade, and Kenneth, all of Brooklyn, New York; his daughters: Queenie of North Carolina and Wanda (Chris) of Florida; and his sister, Louise of Connecticut. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 14 stepchildren, a host of step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He also leaves behind two bonus sons, Donald Redcross and Chris Quinn, whom he loved dearly and who cared for him throughout the years.
Julius was preceded in death by his parents, Wade and Sarah Council; his beloved wife, Clementine Stackhouse Council; eight siblings; his stepson, Jeffrey Autry; and his bonus son, William “Pete” Johnson.
June fought until the very end with remarkable strength, courage, and determination. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his love and generosity will live on forever. We will love you always.
