In Loving Memory of
Joshua Caleb Gause
October 1, 1993 – August 18, 2025
With profound sorrow and deep love, we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Joshua Caleb Gause, affectionately known as “Saucey Gausey,” on August 18, 2025, at the age of 31.
Born on October 1, 1993, to Tami Gause and the late Moro Dowe, Joshua was a beloved son and a deeply cherished grandson to George and Debra Gause (maternal), and Noel and Jennifer Lewis (paternal). He was honored to be the godson of Fredrick and Johnnie Byrd and was lovingly raised by his devoted stepfathers, the late Craig Middlebrooks and Julio Ortiz.
Joshua was educated at Lincoln College in Southington, Connecticut, and Pine Manor College in Boston, Massachusetts. A talented basketball player, he demonstrated drive, discipline, and leadership both on and off the court. His charisma and radiant energy made him truly unforgettable.
A passionate chef and entrepreneur, Joshua founded Saucey Eats, where he used his culinary talents to bring joy, comfort, and connection to others. To Joshua, food was more than just nourishment; it was an expression of love, laughter, and togetherness. Every dish he created carried a piece of his heart.
Joshua also dedicated his professional life to serving others, working closely with individuals who were unable to care for themselves. His patience, empathy, and quiet strength left a lasting impact on all those he supported.
He is survived by a large family of siblings, both by birth and by bond: Uriel Jr., Keith Jr., Tani, Brazil, Nate’, Rahmez, Kyshina, Shauvona, Alexis, Kimathi, Ronaldo, Destiny D., Michael, Chloe, Coree, Destiny M., and Cheyenne. He was predeceased by his brother, Ra-shaun Brown Jr., whose memory remains ever present.
As an uncle, he deeply loved his nieces and nephews: Alayah, Jy’sy, Journee, Kyla, Jenesis, Indigo, Leila, and Vivid. His love for his family knew no limits, and his presence brought joy to all who knew him.
Joshua was surrounded by the love of a large extended family, including his aunts: Christa, Shante, Sylvia (Brian), Alicia, Doslyn “Sonya,” Kimathi, and Nyree (Jamar); and uncles: Marquis (Sabrina), George Jr., Michael “Mickey”, and Coree. He leaves behind a host of great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins, his 159 family, extended family, and countless friends.
He shared a deep, unbreakable bond with his best friends De-shawn “Skillz” Williams, Taverick “Tank” Roberson, and Shayne “Shiggs” Reynolds; brothers by choice and love.
Grounded in faith and family, Joshua lived a life filled with kindness, generosity, and compassion. He didn’t speak about love and light; he embodied it. His sudden departure leaves a void, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide those who were blessed to know him.
He will be deeply missed, forever cherished, and never forgotten.
“Let your light so shine before others, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
— Matthew 5:16
Always love. Always light. Forever Saucey.
