Herbert (Herbie) Lee, son of Lossie Lee and the late Samuel Lee, Sr., was born in Statesboro Georgia on June 20, 1940. He attended Pokes JHS. Later when the family migrated to Fishkill NY, he completed his education at Wappinger’s H.S. While in school he was on the basketball team where he excelled in that skill and was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame for the Wappinger’s school district.
Herbie started work at White Plains Iron Works. Afterward, he went to work at the VA In Montrose NY, and from there he went to Ford Motor Company assembling cars. In 1959 he met and married Maryann Garner and from that union, Kelly and Tracy were born.
Later on, he started what turned out to be a very successful landscaping business which he ran for 20 years and is now run by his grandson Colin Lee. Herbie enjoyed fishing, bowling, and jazz. His favorite song was, Georgia on my mind. His dream was to one day return to his hometown, Statesboro Georgia, where his brother Buck still lives and
other family members as well. He recently became a member of the Beulah Baptist Church in Wappingers Falls under the leadership of Revered Dr. Tony Hart. After a long illness, Herbie quietly departed this life on October 27, 2024, at Vassar Hospital in Poughkeepsie NY.
He was preceded in death by his wife Maryann, his father Samuel Lee, Sr., daughters Kelly Lee, and Michelle Harring, and sister-in-law Lisa Lee.
He leaves to cherish this life, his mother Lossie Lee of Fishkill NY, who is now 101 years young, a daughter Tracy Lee of Poughkeepsie NY, a sister Retha Smith of Peekskill NY, and brother Ernest Lee (Buck) and wife Barbara Lee of Statesboro Georgia, Robert and Kathy Lee of Oxford Maine, and Samuel Lee, Jr. of Wappingers Falls NY. Grandchildren Devin and Colin of WappingersFalls NY, Carmela and Caprice of Beacon NY. Great Grandchildren Cameron and Jordan of WappingersFalls NY. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephew’s, other relatives, and friends
who will cherish his memories until we meet again.

Lee Family, In Maine, I am the next door neighbor of Robert and Kathy Lee, so I have heard a few Lee Family stories. Clearly you are wonderful people. I was saddened to learn of the passing of Herbert, who, like me, was born in 1940. Herbert Lee -- may he rest in peace. Bill Kennedy Otisfield, ME
