Elder Garfield Beamon, born November 23, 1938, passed away on November 28, 2025.
Born in Clinton, North Carolina, the eldest of eight children to Napolean and Thyra Beamon, he moved to Newburgh, NY, in the late 1950s, where he met the love of his life, Ms. Arlene Jeffress, soon to become Mrs. Arlene Beamon. They married and had three sons: Garfield Jr., Tyrone, and Timothy.
He joined Mt. Carmel Church of Christ, where he sang in the Male Chorus and the choir named The Voices. In the late 70s, he became an ordained minister under the guidance of the late great Bishop Johnson. He began traveling from church to church, preaching the word of God from Newburgh to NYC and beyond.
In 1980, Elder Beamon became the pastor of a church in Brooklyn, NY, named The Solid Rock Church of Christ, where he pastored for over 30 years. After retiring from the ministry and IBM, where he also worked for 30 years, he lost his wife of over 50 years, and he was never the same.
He is survived by his three sons, his sister, Ms. Hettie Summerlin of North Carolina, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Special thanks to Princess for being there. Sleep well, King. Elder Garfield Beamon, Lander Street Legend.

I remember Elder Beamon because he played the sousaphone in the marching band at Sampson High School in Clinton, NC. I was a freshman in his Industrial Arts class and he was a senior. Band Director Mr William Little was the teacher. I too went on to become a sousaphone plaayer, and majored in music as a tuba major in college. May Jehovah bless and comfort Elder Beamon's family.
