Eva Maud Smith peacefully transitioned on February 12, 2025.
Born in Lenox Bigwood, Carmel, Westmoreland, Jamaica, on November 30, 1945, Eva was the beloved daughter of the late Adina and George Tomlinson. She received her education in the Shantily School District in Bigwood, Westmoreland.
Eva later moved to Port Antonio, Portland, where she met the love of her life, Wilbert Smith. Their union
was celebrated on June 12, 1971, and together they welcomed three wonderful children: Gary Smith
(married to Sophia) Cleve Smith (married to Terryann), and Ernie Smith (Denise). Eva and Wilbert migrated to Poughkeepsie, New York, on May 4, 1995, in pursuit of new opportunities. Eva dedicated her career to Vassar Brothers Medical Center, where she worked until her retirement in 2011. Upon her
arrival in the U.S., Eva found a loving church home at 19 North Clover Street, where she became an
integral part of the community as a Pastor's Aide and Evangelist. She was well-known for her exceptional
cooking and baking skills, delighting many with her Easter buns, puddings, cakes, and other beloved
Jamaican treats.
Eva is survived by her devoted husband, Wilbert Smith, her three sons, Gary (Sophia), Cleve (Terryann), and Ernie (Denise ), along with 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She is also mourned by her two brothers Exie Smith (Lloyd), and Cornelius Tomlinson (popsie), one sister Elvina Tomlinson (Vida) , and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
