A life is more than birth and death. A life, whether big or small, is a series of events, choices, and happenings. Daisy Jackson led a life of many numbers.
Second Born
Daisy Seale was the second daughter born to Lambert O. Seale and Marguerite Mahoney in the winter of 1934. After her sister Julia, siblings Charlotte, Carole, Marguerite, and brother Lambert followed. Born, raised, and educated in New York City, Daisy was fiercely intelligent and strong-willed from a young age.
The Girl in 245
Who would have known that one building and one floor were what separated Daisy from her destiny? Having lived at 245 111th Street, Daisy was the literal “girl next door.” Her future husband, Robert D. Jackson Jr., lived at 247. He became an Airman in the U.S. Air Force, and she would become his wife in 1958.
Autumn of 1958
Daisy gave birth to her one and only son, Robert “Robbie” Jackson III. Being a military wife and mother would not dissuade her from pursuing a career outside the home. Overcoming discrimination and sexism at a time when women were reentering the workforce, Daisy’s strong character led her to a fruitful career in business.
When professional obstacles presented themselves, she once even made a call to a sitting governor. Daisy was always staunch in her convictions. She would go on to have a forty-five-year career and ultimately retire as a Senior Bookkeeper from the Bank of New York.
This Way to 17K
Leaving Harlem, Daisy and her two Roberts would settle in upstate New York’s Orange County. Over the next sixty-plus years, her home on Route 17K would become the cornerstone of hundreds of family get-togethers.
Fond memories of grilled food, mosquito bites, splashing, tree forts, sunsets, fireworks, homemade ice cream, card games, and laughter were made at “Bobby and Daisy’s.”
Countless
With the death of her mother-in-law, Louise Jackson, Daisy became the matriarch of the Jackson family. A bittersweet aspect of a long life, Daisy was preceded in death by her parents, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, all of her siblings, and her husband’s siblings.
She is survived by her Aunt Miriam of Long Island, NY; her husband of 68 years, Robert D. Jackson Jr. of Rock Tavern, NY; her sister-in-law, Barbara Jackson of New York, NY; her son, Robert Jackson III of Montgomery, NY; and a special nephew, Brandon White of Newburgh, NY. She also leaves behind stepchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, countless friends, and former colleague Rose Buxton.
In the words of Philip James Bailey, “Respect is what we owe; Love is what we give.”
Daisy Jackson was respected and loved. Though she is gone, she will never be forgotten.
