Obituary For Charlotte M. White

Charlotte M. White fell asleep in death on Sunday, February 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Charlotte was born in Aiken, South Carolina on May 14, 1943 to the late Elizabeth Odom Williams and Walter Williams Jr. She was the oldest of the four children in this union.

Charlotte was educated in the LeRoy Central School District in LeRoy, New York. Immediately following her high school graduation in 1961, she moved to Poughkeepsie, New York. She attended Dutchess Community College, where she became a court stenographer and received a certificate in Business Management. Charlotte is best known for working at Marine Midland Bank for over 25 years.

On December 26, 1964, Charlotte married Willis C. White Jr., the love of her life. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage until his death in July 2020. Four children were born to their union: Lenord, who predeceased her; Leah; Lynette; and Willis III. Charlotte, who was affectionately known as “Aunt Charlotte” or “Grammy,” always had a house full of children, and many people thought she had more than four.

If you knew Charlotte, then you know how much she loved God and was dedicated to her congregation. She was baptized in 1970 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Her love for God moved her to teach her children and talk to other people about it. In 1983 her love of God further moved her to spend 100 hours a month teaching people about the bible. Due to health issues, her preaching work slowed down, however, she supported and encouraged everyone in any way
that she could. She often said, “When I could I did.”

Charlotte did not often tell people that she loved them, however, she showed love by her many acts of service. She was known to be very hospitable and welcoming. Anyone could come to her home and get a cup of coffee and a slice of cake or a full meal. Whenever there was a gathering, her carrot cake and potato salad were often the first items requested. In later years she would not make them herself, her granddaughter would, and she would say they are “from the house.” You would often find her sitting at her kitchen table conversing with friends, family, or
anyone who needed a listening ear. This is how you knew she loved you. Her love was further expanded with her grandchildren and later great-grandchildren entering her life.

Charlotte leaves many people to cherish her people to cherish her memory. Daughters Leah White and Lynnette Criswell and son Willis C White III. Special daughters Louise Mima, Tereena Sidberry, Diana Robinso,n and Dina Bingham. Grandchildren Schenita White, Genelle Cummings, Dorian Cummings, and Judah White. Great-grandchildren Sienna Graham, Da’mari Cummings, Elisha Munnerlyn, Londyn Cummings, Lilyanna Cummings, Layla Cummings,
Princeton Cummings, Jamison Bracy, and Carter Cummings. Siblings Richard Williams Sr. (Betty) and JoAnn Brewster, along with a host of nieces and nephews. She further leaves behind life-long friends Marguerite Robinson, Gail Richarson, and Stacey Zimmerman.

A special thank you to the Hudson Valley Hospice and her care team Amorosia Kouaiski, Suzette, Yvonne, and Chantel.
