Carol Ann Gibson Overton-Foster was the second daughter of five children, born to the late Herman
Rudolph Gibson and Ruth Parris Gibson.
Carol, affectionately known as Geeb in nursing school, was educated in the New York City School
System. She graduated as an RN from the Harlem School of Nursing and went to work at Westchester
County Medical Center. There she worked as an ICU nurse in the Post Operative Care Unit. In April of
1994 she met and began a romantic relationship with Cedric Foster. On July 5, 2000, they were married.
Carol attended the Mt. Zion Baptist Church and joined the congregation on January 5, 2003. Carol loved
to sing and dance which led her to join the choir. She was a member of the Women’s Ministry, Nursing
Ministry and helped with fundraising for the church by arranging bus trips and helping with the dinners.
Carol taught exercise classes at the church where she earned the nickname, “Sarge.” Carol was asked to
become a member of the Diaconate Ministry and consecrated on July 20, 2008. She later became the
Executive Secretary for the church in 2012.
Carol enjoyed activities like ice and roller skating, skiing, bowling, and an ace at handball. Gardening was her passion; it showed in her vegetables, yard, and patio.
She leaves to mourn her loss, her loving husband, Cedric Foster, daughters Uzuri and Dara(Auguste)
Dessaline, son Jelani Foster, loving grandchildren, Quinlan, Syrus, Jaden, Takeo, and Brooklyn, one sister Donna Gibson, Astoria Queens, one brother, Thomas Gibson(Sandra) of New York, her loving niece
Rhonda Murdock and a host of cousins, nephews, and a multitude of friends. She was preceded in death by her brother Herman Lee(Gutchie) Gibson, Jr., and sister Jane Swain.
