Our beloved and loving brother Bobby Ray Butler transitioned into eternal rest on November 23, 2025, at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. He was 85 years old.

Bobby was born September 24, 1940, to the late Willie and Callie (Monroe) Hayes in Sampson County, NC.

He accepted Christ at a very young age. In 2023, Dr. G. Boykin led him back to Christ, and he rededicated his life to Christ.

Bobby was preceded in death by his mother and father, Callie and Willie Hayes, his brother James McLean Butler, and his great-nephew, Phillip Boykin.

He graduated from Garland High School in Garland, N.C. Afterward, he joined the army. Later, he moved to Newburgh, N.Y., and was employed by West Point Academy, West Point, N.Y. Years later, Bobby became a cab driver, where he worked until he retired.

Bobby was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was friendly and kind; always grateful for all things. He loved to talk and was a loving person to be around. He loved to talk about sports and shooting pool.

Bobby leaves to cherish his love and memories his three sisters: Dr. Georgetta Boykin, New Windsor, N.Y.; Callie White, Clinton, N.C.; and Jerald Carr, Shreveport, LA. One brother, Willie G. Hayes, Clinton, N.C.

His nieces and nephews are: Irvin L. Boykin (Terry), Marietta Underwood, James White Jr. (Charlotte), Shawn White, Delia Foster (Raymond), Caroline White, Kerry Carr (Christina), Stacy Carr (Coy), and a host of great nephews and nieces.

He will also be remembered by his lifelong friend of many years, Jerry Morris.
