Ethel Mae Harvey

Ethel Mae Johnson-Harvey was born June 16, 1934, in Enfield, North Carolina (Halifax County).

Our beloved matriarch was a retired State of New York worker for the Hudson River Psychiatric Center for 22 years then later she was a home health aide and caregiver for 20 years, a business owner, entrepreneur, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and auntie; earned her wings and became an ancestor on January 18, 2025, at 90 years of age.

For the past 15 years, she has been in the direct care of her eldest daughter, Valarie Harvey-Anthony, and her eldest son, Carlton Earl Harvey, in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Daughter of Sarah Cozy Brinkley-Johnson and Morris Willis Johnson. Granddaughter of Della McWilliams-Johnson, John Willis Johnson, Willis Brinkley, and Lillie McWilliams-Brinkley.

She was raised on a farm in Enfield, North Carolina, where she attended Weldon High School. She was raised with several brothers and sisters, including William, Joe Willis, and Robert Johnson. Her parents also raised her first cousins, Eva, Emma, James, Jesse, and June Johnson.

In 1955, Ethel Mae Johnson married childhood friend and war veteran Clinton Harvey. They traveled the world, living in military homes with their firstborn, Carlton E. Harvey, who was born in 1956 in the nation’s Capital, Washington, D.C.

Ethel Mae earned her General Education Diploma at night at Warren School and received additional licenses from HVOIC, the Hudson Valley Occupational Integrated Center.

Her children survive Ethel Mae; Carlton Earl, Michael Jerome, Valarie, Pierre, Cozy Elaine, Nauwatha, Torrino & Hon. Torrance Harvey (The Twins) and (Grandson raised by Ethel Mae )Ridasha Will Cee Anthony. Her first cousins Eva and Jesse.

Ethel Mae is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clinton Harvey (2005), and siblings William, Joe Willis, Robert, and cousins Emma, James, and June Johnson.

We fully acknowledge all of her surviving nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as well. All who loved their Aunt Mae and grandma: Brenda, Roger, David, Glen, Doris, Vernell Dimps, Willis, Joe Jr., Hosea, Harriet, Jacquelyn, Mark, Greg, Felicia, Kevin, Ethel (Punka) Evette, Monique, Michelle, Erin, Robin, Christian, Javonte, (Leona),
Kennisha, Carlisha, (Tina), TJ, Armani, Brizayna, Ridasha, Romance, Mikia, Ziheem, Omar, Saffire, Tarika, Carol, Miles, Romario, Maritza, Porsche, Josephine, Tatiana, Ciarra, Issac Battle, Carlton Jr., Corey, Karina, Jordan Brown-Harvey, Devin and so many more great-grandchildren. She will always be remembered and missed forever!!
