Honoring the Life of Carla M. Jones
Carla Maureen Jones was born on December 4th, 1966, to mother Myrtle Reid (Manning) and father
Lancefield Brown in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. Carla grew up in the Fairmont district of St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, where she attended Bethlehem all-age school. She then later moved on to South St. Elizabeth Community Vocational Institute, where she enrolled in business classes. Carla attended Bethlehem Moravian Church. In her early years, Carla’s Mother migrated to the US to find a better life. In October 1986, Carla later joined her mother and stepfather (Joslyn Manning) in
Poughkeepsie, NY.
Carla met the love of her life, Devon Jones, in 1989, and after 4 years of courting, the two became one on April 18th, 1992, at Bethel Church of God. A year after their nuptials, Carla and Devon welcomed their first child together: Angelique Jones (daughter). Carla and Devon went on to have two additional children: Donovan Jones (son) and Jovan Jones(son). Devon had a child, Lateisha Jones (daughter) prior to his marriage to Carla, and Lateisha became Carla’s bonus daughter.
While living in Poughkeepsie, New York, Carla had several jobs. She worked at Kmart for over 19 years, where she held the role of Assistant Manager, after which she went on to work for Cardinal Hayes Home for Children for 18 years.
Carla was a genuine, kind-hearted, loving person who embodied elegance. Carla radiated a bright smile while carrying herself with respect, and presented all the characteristics of a Lady and Woman of God.
Carla was a leader. One who was optimistic and who valued the people she worked with, which led to her and her coworkers becoming lifelong friends. She is described by all as calm, patient, hardworking, and dynamic. Carla was truly that and more! Her children and family describe her as an angelic, good-natured, strong, intelligent, determined, encouraging, and fun-loving person who loved the Lord.
Carla began attending Church of God Prophecy in Poughkeepsie, where she was later baptized. Carla was later ordained as a Minister in the church. Carla was very active in the church and served in many capacities. She was a member of the Voices of Praise Sanctuary Choir, the Pastor’s Aide Committee, and the Praise & Worship team. Carla, at one time, was the Leader of the Women’s Ministry, and later transitioned to being an active member of the Women’s Ministry. Carla remained a dedicated Member of the Redeemed Christian Fellowship Church of God of Prophecy for over 30 years until her passing.
Carla embodied love. She loved her children, grandchildren, and family dearly. Carla had a zest for life and enjoyed attending church, church functions, vacationing, shopping, walking, and dancing. She loved preparing dishes for functions, she would cook her infamous soup, Dutch-pot fry chicken, gungo rice and peas, and steamed vegetables with saltfish.
It was her love for the Lord that strengthened her and allowed her to remain selfless, while rejoicing in love with an exceptional ability to care for others more than herself at times. Carla M. Jones was our Angel on this earth, a true blessing to everyone, and one who left a lasting legacy on anyone she came in contact with.
Carla loved to celebrate and live life to the fullest. Carla was a fashionista who loved dressing to impress while smelling good. She walked into every room with style and grace. Carla was a fighter and fought hard up until her last day, April 9th, 2025, when the Lord called her home.
