Roosevelt Cook

October 24 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

To Everything, There Is a Season

A Time to be Born “For everyone born of God overcomes the world…” (1 John 5:4a)

Roosevelt Theodore Cook was born on Jan 1, 1925, in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Lucy Cook.

A Time to Live I press on toward the goal of winning the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14)

Cook, as he was called by most, received his formal education in the Alabama School System. He joined the United States Navy for 18 years, serving in WWII and the Korean War. After which, he worked for the Postal Office and retired after 20 years. Cook joined Beulah Baptist Church where he was a devoted member until his illness prevented him from attending. Some of his favorite things were going fishing and listening to Jazz and the Blues.

A Time to Love “Let your conversation be full of grace, seasoned with salt so that you may know how to answer everyone” (Colossians 4:6)

Cook met the love of his life Shirley Hart in Brooklyn, NY. They were united in holy matrimony on December 15, 1957. From that union, four sons were born Walter, Rodney, Kyle, and Stacy.

A Time to Die “And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, ‘Write Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth…” (Rev 14:13a)

As he rested at home on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 4:14 am, God called his servant Roosevelt to his heavenly home.

Cook was preceded in death by his 8 brothers and 2 sisters, his daughters, Barbara and Gracie; sons, Kyle and Stacy; and grandsons, Walter Jr and Treyvon.

A Time to Mourn “Praised be to God the father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the father of compassion and the God of all comfort.” (2 Cor 1:3)

He leaves to cherish his fond memories: wife, Shirley; sons Roosevelt Jr, Jerome, Walter, Rodney, and Timothy; 20 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Archie; a brother-in-law, Oswald; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Done in sorrow,

The Family
