DESCRIPTION:In Loving Memory of\nNahshon Rakeem Harvard \nNahshon Rakeem Harvard\, affectionately known as “Big Nahsh” and loved by many throughout the community\, was born on July 9\, 1977\, and peacefully transitioned from this life on May 27\, 2026. His passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of his family\, friends\, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. Yet the example he set through his character\, generosity\, and enduring presence will continue to live on through those whose lives he touched. \nA lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie\, Nahshon attended the Poughkeepsie City School District\, where he distinguished himself as both a student and athlete. His appreciation for sports remained a constant throughout his life. He devoted countless hours to coaching Pop Warner football and took tremendous pride in supporting his son\, Jahquel Harvard\, throughout his basketball journey. Whether on the sidelines\, in the stands\, or offering guidance behind the scenes\, Nahshon understood the importance of encouragement\, discipline\, and believing in the potential of young people. \nHe was equally devoted to nurturing and guiding his youngest son\, Nahshon Harvard\, Jr.\, taking every opportunity to share the lessons\, values\, and wisdom he had gathered throughout his life. More than a father\, he was a teacher\, mentor\, and example whose guidance will continue to resonate for generations to come. \nNahshon was born into a family rich in love and tradition. He was the beloved son of Claudette M. Lawrence and was predeceased by his father\, William Louis Harvard. He was also preceded in death by his uncles\, Hassan Harvard and Hafice Harvard. Nahshon cherished the memory of his maternal grandmother\, Ms. Lulu R. Lawrence\, and his paternal grandparents\, Maggie Ruth Harvard and Joseph Harvard\, whose values and example helped shape the man he would become. \nNahshon was a devoted father whose greatest joy was his children. He leaves to cherish his memory his four beloved children: Jazlyn Harvard\, Nyaira Harvard\, and Jahquel Harvard\, all of Rochester\, New York\, and Nahshon Harvard\, Jr. of Poughkeepsie\, New York. He loved each of them deeply and took immense pride in their growth and accomplishments. \nHe also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren\, Tauyair Harvard and Jaelyn Harvard. \nHe is also survived by his loving mother\, Claudette M. Lawrence; his uncle\, Corey K. Lawrence; his aunts\, Kim Harvard and Rose Harvard of Poughkeepsie\, New York; his siblings\, Ryan Lawrence\, Rayne McNeil\, and Tai Johnson; his nephew\, Taiquan Johnson; and a host of beloved cousins\, including Savannah Lawrence\, Jayden Lawrence\, Sanaya Lawrence\, Yasin Stafford\, Dyami Stafford\, Katriba Bing of Poughkeepsie\, New York\, Todd Johnson of New York City\, and Cori Renee Lawrence and Devin Lawrence of Virginia\, along with many extended family members and dear friends. \nNahshon’s love for music was a constant throughout his life. As a young man\, he was a founding member of the music collective EnterPrize\, where creativity\, camaraderie\, and a shared passion for music formed lasting bonds and lifelong memories. Although he rarely sought the spotlight himself\, he possessed a natural ear for talent and became a trusted advocate for many aspiring artists throughout the Hudson Valley. \nThrough countless hours spent in studios and creative spaces\, he offered insight\, honest feedback\, and unwavering confidence in the abilities of others. He often humbly remarked\, “I can’t play\, sing\, or rap\, but I know talent when I hear it\,” a statement many would later recognize as remarkably true. \nProfessionally\, Nahshon worked at Ken’s Furniture alongside his cousin Rocky\, where he became known not only for his strong work ethic but also for his welcoming personality and ability to make others feel valued. Customers remembered his warmth\, sense of humor\, and willingness to help whenever needed. \nNahshon also worked as a respected livery cab driver with Empire Transportation alongside his good friend\, Donald Trulove. Known for his professionalism\, patience\, and calm demeanor\, he earned the trust and appreciation of countless passengers who praised the safety\, comfort\, and care he provided during their travels. Whether assisting a longtime customer or helping someone reach their destination for the first time\, he approached every interaction with courtesy and respect. \nWhether through his work\, his friendships\, or his creative pursuits\, Nahshon consistently found ways to contribute to the lives of those around him. \nIn his later years\, Nahshon became instrumental in supporting the launch of a comedy and podcast platform alongside his longtime friend Maurice Gary. What began as a creative endeavor rooted in friendship continues today as another reflection of his belief in conversation\, connection\, and community. \nThroughout the community\, Nahshon was known for his welcoming nature and uncommon ability to make people feel seen\, valued\, and connected. Whether through music\, sports\, conversation\, or simple acts of kindness\, he created lasting bonds wherever he went. He loved music\, spirited conversations\, shared experiences\, and creating moments that brought people together. \nA lifelong and dedicated fan of both the New York Knicks and the New York Giants\, he celebrated victories with enthusiasm\, debated games with passion\, and remained faithful through every season\, reflecting the same steadfast spirit that characterized his approach to life. \nBeyond family\, Nahshon treasured friendships that spanned decades. He leaves to cherish his memory and lifelong friendship with Troy Soares\, Taurus Ford Jackson\, Frank Nesbitt\, and Tim McQueen\, along with countless others who came to regard him as family. Their shared experiences and enduring bonds stand as a reflection of a life rich in meaningful relationships. \nNahshon leaves behind a legacy defined by compassion\, mentorship\, resilience\, and an abiding commitment to those he loved. Born on April 18\, 1956\, in Beacon\, New York\, she was preceded in death by her parents\, Andrew Hale Washington and Dorothy Mae Washington\, whom she both cherished. Throughout her life\, Shelia embraced every moment with love\, laughter\, strength\, and an unwavering devotion to her family. \nFor her daughter\, Tatanisha Powell\, Shelia was so much more than a mother. She was a best friend\, a source of wisdom\, a protector\, and the person who could always be counted on for comfort\, encouragement\, and unconditional love. The bond they shared was extraordinarily built on countless conversations\, shared memories\, laughter\, and a love that remained constant through every season of life. Being a mother was Shelia’s greatest joy\, and she carried that role with pride\, grace\, and endless dedication. \nShelia’s family was the heart of her life. She was a proud grandmother to Tranisha Kirby and Narelle Washington\, and a devoted great-grandmother to Zion\, Zane\, and Za’Riyah Kirby. Her pride in her family and her joy in sharing moments with them defined her legacy. \nAnyone who knew Shelia knew that she could light up the room the moment she walked into it. She had a beautiful smile\, a quick wit\, and a laugh that was impossible not to join in on. She loved making people happy and had a special way of bringing comfort\, joy\, and laughter to those around her. Her warmth made everyone feel welcome\, and her kindness left lasting impressions on friends\, neighbors\, coworkers\, and loved ones alike. \nShelia was also known for her incredible sense of style. A true fashionista\, she loved looking her best and expressing herself through her clothing. She carried herself with confidence and elegance\, and her vibrant personality shone through everything she did. Whether she was dressed up for an occasion or simply enjoying a day out\, she always brought beauty\, grace\, and flair wherever she went. \nShelia retired from IBM in East Fishkill\, New York\, where she was respected for her dedication\, professionalism\, and caring spirit. Even after retirement\, her desire to stay active and help others led her to John Jay High School\, where she worked as an Administrative Assistant. There\, she continued to touch lives with her kindness\, compassion\, and cheerful presence. \nShe loved music\, traveling\, dancing\, and celebrating life’s simple joys. She was the kind of person who would turn up the volume on her favorite song\, dance without hesitation\, and encourage everyone around her to enjoy the moment. Her infectious joy and ability to find happiness in everyday life reflected her vibrant personality and love for living fully. \nWhile her passing leaves an unfilled void\, the love Shelia shared continues to inspire. Emma was blessed with more than 25 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren\, along with many nieces and nephews\, as well as many close friends. \nEmma was preceded in death by her parents\, Vasco and Elizabeth Henry; 4 brothers\, Clarence Henry\, Kermit Henry\, Tyrone Henry\, and Crosby Henry; one sister\, Elizabeth Faye Brooks; and one niece\, Shawanda Caldwell.
